The Coastal Capital Blueprint is our structure for how we work with our clients.

It was designed with busy tech professionals in mind, it prioritizes implementation and accountability, and it builds positive financial habits in our client’s lives.

Step 1) “Get To Know” Meeting

A quick meeting to figure out if it makes sense to work together.

The goal with this meeting is to get to know you, your situation, and what you're looking for in financial planner. We then share how we work with our clients so you can leave this meeting knowing if we're the right fit.

If we determine that we're not the right advisors for you, we'll refer you to other advisors we’ve vetted in our network who may be a better fit.

Time until collaboration meeting: 1-3 weeks

Step 2) Collaboration

A meeting to go over your goals & dreams and review the numbers so we have a clear understanding of where you are and where you are headed

time until plan delivery meeting: 2-4 weeks

Step 3) Plan Delivery

First, we review your full financial picture together:

  • How you're invested

  • Equity compensation and concentrated positions

  • Net worth

  • Liquidity

  • Goals & priorities

Then we go over recommendations, action items, and your financial plan.

time before next meeting: one month

Step 4) Accountability - The Key

We get it, life's busy.

It's easy to put off important tasks (there’s always next week, right?), which is why we created this step to ensure everything gets implemented from the plan. We follow up and meet as necessary to make sure you feel confident in your financial plan moving forward.

time before next meeting: 2 months

Step 5) 60 Day Check In

A second accountability check in. This allows us to make sure everything is dialed in and set up for success.

Ongoing Check-ins & Availability

Step 6) Ongoing Planning

For clients who want a long term partner, we have check-ins as necessary as well as regular touch points to create an up-to-date plan, update investments, track your net worth growth, and make necessary changes.

Still Have Questions? Keep Reading…

+ Why should I work with you over another financial advisor?

In all fairness, it's not a guarantee that you should.

Coastal Capital was designed for tech professionals who are looking for more than a typical advisor relationship.

Rather than just managing your money and checking in with you once a year, we build relationships with our clients and help you design your future while being there every step of the way. If you're looking for something different than your parent's financial advisor, we might be the right fit for you.

*And if we're not the right fit, we'll help you find the right advisor for your situation.

+ Can you meet virtually and work with people in other states?

Yes! While many of our clients are in Southern California, we work with people all over the US. We work with clients in a variety of ways, including virtually. We can use Google Meet, Zoom, phone call, or whatever works best for you!

+ How does Coastal Capital make money?

We are a fee-only firm. This means we don't get commissions and we don't sell any products. Our fees depend on your needs and complexity and are a clear line item.

Other financial advisors might be commission based, which may lead to a conflict of interest or cause fees to be murky. Not us.

Whether you choose to work with us in an advice-only role or manage your investments, you will have one transparent fee. Our aim is to make sure you can reach your goals without worry.

+ Do I need a certain amount of money to work with you?

Nope!

One great thing about Coastal Capital is that our goal is to help our generation achieve financial freedom and we understand that a majority of us don't have large amounts of money to invest right away.

That's why we have offer a monthly subscription model so you can have access to financial advice just as easily as Netflix or Amazon Prime.

+ Do You Only Handle Investments?

Nope!

A common misconception about financial planning is that it only consists of picking stocks and hoping they go up.

At Coastal Capital, we work with you to resolve your financial pain points and create a true plan to get you where you want to go. In addition, we do provide investment management.

+ Why would I need a financial advisor?

This is a question we get all the time and for good reason! While it is difficult to picture the benefits of having a financial advisor if you haven't worked with one before, the long term peace of mind knowing your finances are being taken care of by a professional can be worth the cost in itself.

Also, there was also a study done by Vanguard that shows investors who have a financial advisor average 3% more in net returns than investors who don’t have an advisor.

In today's world, tax laws, financial laws, and regulations are changing all the time (just like your life & financial picture) so it's important to be in the know to avoid making costly mistakes.

+ Are you a fidicuary?

Yes! This means we are required to act in your best interest no matter what.

+ How are you different than other financial advisors?

There are four really important things about our firm that separate us from others:

  1. We actually choose the investments. We don't outsource them to 3rd parties, where you pay additional fees. Based on your situation, we structure a portfolio to help you reach your goals.

  2. We focus on tech employees. We help clients navigate similar questions and issues.

  3. We specialize in equity comp. So we know how to help you exercise, sell, and try not to get killed with taxes.

  4. We know what can go wrong. So when we work together, we can help you avoid landmines. But if it's already happened (spoiler alert: there's always landmines), we know where to look and how to fix it.
